It's not just about cats but a materialization of the Brazilian popular said "gato escaldado tem medo de água fria" (scalded cat has fear of cold water). I know that is confusing translated literally but it means that who had a bad experience with some thing really dangerous (hot water) is afraid of some thing inoffensive (cold water).
